What the Ford Maverick can really do

You've all heard about the Ford Maverick. The compact pickup truck, which is already available for order, will arrive later this fall. It's attractively priced and its qualities are certainly interesting. But do you really know what the Ford Maverick can do?

Low fuel consumption

The base engine of the little truck is innovative: it's a hybrid. In fact, it's a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine, producing 162 horsepower (120 kilowatts) and 155 lb-ft (210 Newton-metres) of torque. With the 94 kW electric motor, the combined output is 191 horsepower (142 kW) and 173 lb-ft (234 N.m) of torque.

What is exceptional, however, is the claimed fuel economy. The ratings are 5.9 L/100 km, just a little better than the Ford Escape Hybrid!

It works hard

The hybrid version of the Ford Maverick promises a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, and a load capacity of 1,500 pounds, within a few hundred of a full-size pickup truck. But if you want a little more, you can opt for the 2.0-litre, 250-horsepower engine.

This time, it's a towing capacity of 4000 pounds. Not bad for a truck of this size.

It's versatile

Have you heard of the Flexbed? It's the new design system of the 4.5-foot box of the Ford Maverick. In practical terms, it allows you to plug tools into a 120-volt inverter, install accessories offered by Ford (such as bike racks and extra anchors) or make your own with standard-sized materials.

You can also have a box extender and many other features. Who says small trucks aren't practical?

And even more

Of course, there are tons of other features, including safety options and FordPass connectivity that will add to the Maverick's spec sheet. Because as the folks at Ford say, the little Maverick is the truck for people who didn't know they needed a truck. Have you ordered yours?
