A Bronco that's easy to identify
If you didn't know it was a Bronco when you looked at it, you missed it. The many styling elements make the Bronco what it is. Its unique headlights, its particular colours, but most of all its overall style make it impossible not to recognize it.
But Ford did a little more, making sure you'd notice the name almost everywhere you looked. The word "Bronco" and the Bronco horse logo are inserted in obvious places like the steering wheel, grille, seats and infotainment system. They're also present in less obvious places, such as the gearshift and the bolts that hold the vehicle's interior pieces together.
The Bronco offers two powerful engines. The first, a 2.3-litre 4-cylinder engine shared with the popular Ford Ranger, makes 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. You can combine this engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed manual version. Another option with the automatic transmission is a twin-turbocharged 2.7-litre V6 engine with 310 horsepower and 400lb-ft of torque.
A true off-roader
The Ford Bronco is offered in several versions and has a standard 4x4 powertrain. Its terrain management system is called G.O.A.T. in the marketing materials and has seven modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, Slick, Sand, Baja, Mud/Ornery and Rock Crawl. The last three modes were explicitly designed for off-roading.
In the advanced 4x4 system, the Bronco has a two-speed electromechanical transfer case with an automatic mode that allows you to choose between 2H and 4H. In terms of ground clearance, the Bronco's body sits 295 mm off the ground when shod with 35-inch off-road tires, with a maximum angle of attack of 29 degrees and a departure angle of 37.2 degrees in its most off-road-oriented variants. The base avatar sits at least 8.3 inches (211 mm) off the ground with 16-inch steel tires and 30-inch off-road tires.
More full details on the new Bronco include an independent front suspension, a solid rear axle with five-link coil springs, long-travel Bilstein shocks and massive off-road tires as standard. It can also receive an optional semi-active hydraulic sway bar disconnect design for maximum articulation and increased ramp angle rating for off-gauge terrain. Water depth is an impressive 851 mm (33.5 inches).
Bronco models range from "no-frills" SUVs to "extreme off-road adventure" vehicles. Models include Big Bend, Outer Banks, Wildtrak and Badlands.
Outdoors
What's the point of having an off-road vehicle if you can't enjoy the great outdoors? According to Ford, the Bronco's doors and roof can be removed to provide a "quick, easy and fun" open-air experience.
