The 2024 Ford Ranger is not exactly a newcomer since this version has been on sale for a few months in other continents. In fact, as a global model, the Ford Ranger has accumulated nearly 5 million test miles, all over the world, including Australia and New Zealand.
The new version grows a bit. The truck is wider and 50 mm longer, while the shock mounts have been moved to the outside of the chassis to improve stability. Maximum towing capacity is still 7,500 pounds, and payload at 1,711 pounds.
Under the hood, stability is the order of the day, with the base 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine producing 270-hp and 310 lb-ft. But be warned; a more powerful engine will be added, a 2.7 turbo V6 with 315-hp and 400 lb-ft. Both are equipped with a 10-speed transmission.
Ford Ranger Raptor
Then there's the Raptor, the more powerful off-road brother. It's equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 engine with 405-hp and 430 lb-ft, shared with the Bronco Raptor. It gets a 10-speed transmission coupled to a four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case and locking front and rear differentials. The suspension includes lightweight aluminum upper and lower control arms and a long-travel rear suspension with Watts link arms.
The 2024 Ranger Raptor is also equipped with FOX shocks that adjust to Normal, Towing/Transport, Sport, Slip, Off-Road, Rock Crawl and Baja riding modes. The frame has been reinforced for the most demanding rails, suspension mounts and shocks. The exhaust system can be set to Quiet, Normal, Sport and Baja modes.
In addition to the black grille with huge FORD lettering, the Ranger Raptor features a steel bumper with integrated tow hooks, as well as high-strength steel skid plates and a new exclusive Shelter Green colour.
The 17-inch wheels, which can be locked in the middle, are shod with 33-inch BFGoodrich KO3 off-road tires. Inside, you'll find magnesium shift knobs, Ford Performance seats and Code Orange accents, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system.
The rear seat has a folding backrest and under-seat storage. Upfront on the Ford Ranger is a 10.1-inch center screen with SYNC 4A, FordPass Connect and 360-degree cameras, with an 8.0- to 12.4-inch digital handset and inductive charging. For assistance, it has blind spot monitoring, parking assistance and towing assistance. The box includes a side step, power inverter and air compressor.
