What keeps it at the top, however, is Ford's ability to add practical features that make it even more efficient. It was these elements that marked the unveiling of the new 2024 Ford F-150 at the Detroit Auto Show.
Minor changes
Aesthetically, the 2024 Ford F-150 undergoes a few minor alterations. It's true that the grille has been slightly revised, now stretching over a wider area. The headlight clusters are now available with LED lights, either as an option or standard on all models.
In the cabin, the information screen is now 12 inches long, slightly larger than in previous generations.
Mechanically, the changes are also minor. All existing engines have been retained, but the family's naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6 has been dropped. Base versions will now be equipped with the EcoBoost V6 2.7-liter turbo engine and its 325 hp.
Intelligent innovation
However, the best thing about the 2024 Ford F-150 is the redesigned tailgate, called Pro Access. In a nutshell, this is a tailgate that opens sideways to facilitate access to the vehicle.
At first glance, the Pro Access tailgate may seem simple: it opens sideways, from left to right, instead of vertically, downwards. However, the realization of this type of tailgate is more complex than it seems.
Technically, we had to ensure that the door structure did not lose rigidity and also redesign the bumper, which is now wider and more imposing. In some versions, it also houses a small footboard that eliminates the need for acrobatics to climb aboard the body.
Practical benefits
The Pro Access tailgate offers many practical advantages. It makes access to the loading bed easier and safer. Bending over the tailgate to load or unload objects is no longer necessary.
Moreover, the Pro Access tailgate can be opened to three different angles: 37, 70 or 100 degrees. This allows it to be adapted to different situations. For example, it can be opened to 37 degrees to facilitate access to the box with an attached trailer.
The Pro Access tailgate is also compatible with numerous accessories, such as dividers and tonneau covers. This creates a fully functional loading space. The Pro Access tailgate is available as an option on Lariat and Tremor models. It is standard on King Ranch and Platinum models.
The new 2024 F-150 doesn't completely reinvent itself. But it's still innovative enough to earn the title of class champion.
